For the past four years, I have served as a Surveyor, Country Manager, and Advisor-Consultant in Asunción, Paraguay.

How long have you been working for INTLREG?

I have joined INTLREG  in April 2016. This 8+ years’ journey has been incredibly enriching, filled with continuous learning and valuable experiences that have allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the industry.

Can you describe your experience working as a surveyor in the maritime industry?

My experience as a surveyor in the maritime industry involves the technical classification and risk management of smaller work vessels. This task is particularly challenging, as it requires maintaining high standards despite the unique difficulties associated with classifying smaller vessels.

What relevant certifications or qualifications do you possess for this role?

I am a Naval Engineer with 30 years of experience in the field, consistently staying updated on IMO codes and guidelines. Additionally, I hold a Master’s degree in International Maritime Law, which further enhances my expertise in this role.

How do you stay updated with the latest regulations and industry standards related to classification and surveying?

I stay updated with the latest regulations and industry standards by regularly attending industry conferences, participating in INTLREG professional training programs, and actively engaging with relevant publications and online resources to ensure continuous learning and compliance.

Can you provide an example of a challenging surveying assignment you’ve encountered in the past and how you resolved it?

I once faced the challenge of surveying new passenger vessels being built in Venezuela. The vessels required significant adjustments to meet our stringent standards. Through close collaboration with the shipyard and detailed inspections, we successfully ensured compliance and safety.

How do you prioritize and manage your workload when handling multiple surveying assignments simultaneously?

I prioritize and manage multiple surveying assignments by assessing each task’s urgency and complexity, creating a detailed schedule based on our shipowners requirements, and breaking down larger tasks into manageable steps. I stay organized through meticulous documentation and regular progress reviews, ensuring that all assignments are completed efficiently and meet required deadlines.

What tools or technologies do you rely on to conduct surveys efficiently and accurately?

I mainly use INTLREG’s eShips online system – a cutting-edge digital platform designed to streamline maritime operations by offering real-time access to vital information. It provides clients with a user-friendly interface to manage vessel data, track certification status, and monitor compliance with international regulations. The eShips system enhances efficiency by simplifying the documentation process, facilitating communication, and ensuring that all critical updates are instantly accessible, enabling seamless management of maritime assets worldwide.

How do you approach communication and collaboration with shipowners, shipbuilders, and other stakeholders during surveying processes?

I ensure that all parties clearly understand the surveying requirements, timelines, and any necessary adjustments. By fostering open dialogue and being responsive to concerns, I build strong working relationships that facilitate smooth and efficient surveying processes.
